DESCRIPTION:The Inns of Court Victoria is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a 2-hour in person seminar on the topic of “Estate Planning\, Real Estate Transactions and Civil Litigation: some considerations from a family law point of view. \nPanelists:  \n\nMichelle Kinney –  Ms. Kinney is the founder of Michelle Kinney Law.  She focuses her practice on family building and fertility law.  Ms. Kinney was one of the architects of the British Columbia Family Law Act. She is accredited as a Family Law Mediator and a Family Law Arbitrator by the BC Law Society. She is recognized as an expert in her areas of law and is a regular presenter and contributor to a range of education materials on family law\, law reform\, family violence and parentage / fertility law.\nChristine Murray: Ms. Murray is a partner at Cassels Murray Family and Estates Law.  Her practice focuses on family law\, mediation and fertility law.  Ms. Murray is accredited as a Family Law Mediator and Arbitrator by the BC Law Society.\n\nTopic:  \nThe panelists will be discussing topics of family law that are relevant to other legal practitioners including: \n\nReal estate transactions: Implications of real estate transactions in the application of the property division provisions of the Family Law Act;\nPrevious legal files and how their contents may be relevant evidence in a family law matter (i.e. gift letters\, damage settlement breakdown\, land transfer documents); and\nEstate planning and how the transfer of assets to adult children could result in the property becoming divisible as family property under the Family Law Act.\n\nPlease note there will be prizes for audience participation.  The panelists welcome your questions by e-mail in advance so they can consider them and speak to them in their presentation. \nProfessional Development Credits: This course offers up to 2 hours of Professional Development Credits (See “How to get PD Credit” below). \nWhen:  Wednesday\, January 25\, 2023 \nTime: Doors open at 4:30pm in the afternoon.
