DESCRIPTION:The Inns of Court Victoria is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a 2-hour in-person seminar on the topic of “Ethics”. \nPanelists:  \n\nPaul Pearson – crown counsel and bencher for the Victoria County\n\n\nDean Lawton\, K.C. – Senior counsel at Carfra Lawton\, former bencher for the Victoria County\, and former president of the BC Law Society\n\nTopic:  \nBoth Mr. Pearson and Mr. Lawton will be discussing about the topic of ethics and the situation concerning the single regulator proposal for the law society. \nThis is currently the only ethics presentation that the Inns of Court is planning to host this year\, and we are grateful that it will be presented by current bencher\, Mr. Pearson\, and former bencher\, Mr. Lawton. \nProfessional Development Credits: This course offers up to 2 hours of Professional Development Credits (See “How to get PD Credit” below). \nWhen:  Thursday\, April 13\, 2023 \nTime: Doors open at 4:30pm in the afternoon. DESCRIPTION:2023 Inns of Court Series – Professionalism and Ethics for Junior Counsel – Hosted by Sean Finn Featuring Various Local Jurists \nThe Victoria Bar Association (“VBA”) is grateful to Sean Finn and Monique Dull for hosting a dinner series for articled students and junior lawyers with less than five (5) years of practice regarding issues of professionalism and ethics in the practice of law. \nThese sessions are designed to be “roundtable” discussions with senior lawyers acting as facilitators rather than lecturing on these topics. The intention is to give articled students and junior counsel a forum within which to discuss the challenges that arise in our day-to-day practice as well as hear how others deal with these sometimes difficult and stressful issues. \nAt the beginning of the program\, learners will be provided with a copy of Chief Justice McEachern’s 2003 paper Ethical and Professional Responsibilities. Each session will focus on a different chapter from this paper. \nDates \nThis year\, we will host two sessions in the spring and two more in the fall on the following dates between 5PM and 7PM: \n\nTuesday\, April 18th\, 2023\nTuesday\, May 16th\, 2023\nTuesday\, October 17th\, 2023\nTuesday\, November 14th\, 2023\n\nLocation \nThe Barristers’ Lounge in the 5th floor courthouse library located at 850 Burdett Street. \nCost \nThis program will be offered at no cost to articled students and junior lawyers with less than five (5) years of practice who are members of the VBA.
