Back To Events

Topic:                Ethics and Professional Responsibility in the Age of Generative AI

 Date:                  Wednesday, September 24, 2025 – 5:00pm to 7:30pm

Location:         Maple Room – Sticky Wicket Pub (food provided)

Topic:                 Generative AI promises new opportunities for efficiency and innovation in legal practice, but it also raises profound ethical and professional responsibility challenges. This panel will explore these issues both in theory and in practice. Panelists will examine how lawyers’ obligations under the Code of Professional Conduct and Law Society Rules intersect with the use of emerging AI tools, with attention to confidentiality, privilege, and the limits of anonymization in protecting solicitor-client information. Drawing on their experience developing the Law Society’s AI Practice Resource, Patricia Parker and Cary Ann Moore will provide practical insights from a regulatory and practice perspective, while Professor Robert Diab will situate these developments within broader theoretical and academic discussions of professional ethics in the AI era.

Panelists:        Patricia Parker (Practice Advice Coordinator, LSBC); Cary Ann Moore (Legislative Counsel, LSBC), and Professor Robert Diab (Thompson Rivers University)
