The Inns of Court Victoria is pleased to announce that it will be hosting a 2 hour in-person seminar on the topic of intellectual property protection, including copyright, patents, trademarks, industrial designs, trade secrets and the interplay amongst these different types of intellectual property.
Intellectual property lawyers James Ramsbottom and Alistair Forster will be presenting an overview intellectual property protection with relevant considerations to practitioners in the legal field. The presentation will provide information on the various types of intellectual property protection, including copyright, patents, trademarks, industrial designs, and trade secrets and how each of these interplay in the formation of an intellectual property portfolio. With regard to each of each of these forms of intellectual property, timelines for engaging the system will be discussed and general considerations will be provided to advise clients of when and how to engage the system to maximize the value from their inventions, trade presence, and technical know-how.
James Ramsbottom and Alistair Forster, partners of the firm Merizzi Ramsbottom & Forster, will be conducting the presentation. James Ramsbottom developed an interest in intellectual property as a doctoral student in molecular pharmacology, and has since worked with scientists and engineers in a range of disciplines. He is also the inventor of several Canadian and American patents and the author of peer-reviewed scientific publications. Alistair Forster is a chemical-engineer-turned-lawyer, who spent years working in the development and testing of medical devices before working in intellectual property law and developing hands-on experience with patents and patent litigation.
